What are the potential outcomes from the private GP appointment service

Your doctor on the call is completely focused on ensuring you receive the best treatment and care for your condition. This means there are a number of possible outcomes from the appointment, depending on the issue, diagnosis, or treatment required. You may receive one or more of the possible outcomes depending on your concerns and symptoms.

Medical Advice

Your doctor will give you advice on your condition and symptoms, which could include lifestyle and dietary suggestions to manage or support your symptoms. They may also recommend some over the counter treatments if appropriate.

Prescription

Depending on the diagnosis, the doctor may recommend a treatment and issue a private prescription to you. You can then collect this prescription from any UK pharmacy, or opt to have it delivered to your for an additional fee. Please click here to see a guide on how to get your prescription if issued.

Certain ranges of treatment either require ongoing monitoring and care, or are restricted / controlled in nature, meaning that these cannot be prescribed by your doctor in your appointment - please see a non-exhaustive list of medicines by clicking here. All prescriptions are issued at the discretion of your doctor on the call.

Fit note or open referral letters

Depending on the diagnosis and discussion, the doctor can issue an open referral letter or a fit note (often called a sick note). An open referral letter confirms the observed symptoms, and gives suggestion about the best secondary care discipline to approach next at a private hospital or clinic for further testing and treatment.

A fit note is the standard government fit note document (Med3 form) to confirm to an employer in a professional's opinion if a person is unfit to attend work or to attend work with reasonable adjustments in duties, as well as to allow claiming of statutory sick pay (SSP).

As part of a Duty of Care to a patient, we need to be able to share details of an issued Med3 document with your regular NHS GP, and cannot issue this document to non-UK citizens. If you are a non-UK citizen, or do not wish us to share the document with your regular GP, we will be unable to issue as part of your consultation

Referral to another care provider

Depending on the symptoms, diagnosis, and patient situation, the best pathway for your treatment or care will be to direct you to a different service provider. This could be Accident/Emergency or Urgent Care services, or to your regular GP if you have an ongoing condition that needs care and management.

All of the above are potential outcomes of your appointment, and all decisions are made by the doctor conducting your appointment, as the professional involved with your care.
