What can your Private GP Service prescribe?

What prescriptions can the private GP service offer, and what are they not able to provide

Updated over 6 months ago

The remote private GP appointment service, in partnership with Health Hero, is able to offer a wide range of treatments and medications depending on the medical issue you are experiencing.

It's important to note that a prescription will only be offered if it's assessed as needed by the doctor during your appointment; simply booking an appointment to see a GP will not guarantee a prescription being issued to you.

As the service is remote, with no access to your medical history, and not able to offer ongoing care, there are some limitations to what can be prescribed from an appointment.

We are not able to prescribe the following through this service:

  • Repeat prescriptions for existing medical conditions

  • Controlled medication - this encompasses the majority of antidepressants, anti-anxiety and sleeping medications.

  • Medications that require ongoing monitoring or care - such as beta blockers, weight loss medication, diabetic medication

If you are not sure if a medication you are seeking falls into the above category, we strongly recommend contacting us at [email protected] before booking your appointment, as refunds will not be issued if a doctor is not able to prescribe a treatment to you.

This service cannot issue weight loss medications, such as Mounjaro or Wegovy. Please see our weight loss clinic service, and do not book a private GP appointment.
