Mounjaro and High Cholesterol

How does Mounjaro impact high cholesterol?

Updated over a week ago

As with any prescription medication, it's important to be aware of the impact it can have on other medical conditions you may be experiencing.

High cholesterol occurs when there is too much cholesterol in the blood. It is primarily caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices such as a diet high in saturated fats, lack of physical activity, obesity, and smoking. Genetics, age, and certain medical conditions like diabetes and hypothyroidism can also contribute to high cholesterol levels.

The risks associated with high cholesterol are significant. It can lead to the buildup of plaques in the arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis. This can restrict blood flow and increase the risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. High cholesterol is often asymptomatic, making regular check-ups crucial for early detection and management.

Mounjaro, a medication primarily used for weight loss, can help improve high cholesterol levels. By promoting weight loss, Mounjaro helps reduce the amount of cholesterol in the blood. It works by reducing appetite and increasing feelings of fullness, making it easier to achieve and maintain a healthier weight. Weight reduction is associated with lower levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) and higher levels of HDL (good cholesterol).

It's always worth discussing your existing medical conditions with your regular GP before starting any new treatments, and our clinical team will assess your medical questionnaire and history to make sure you are suitable for the medication.
