Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy: what you need to know

Updated today

Deciding to switch medications can feel like a tricky decision, and we remain fully client‑led when it comes to dosing. To support you, our clinical team have outlined key points to guide a safe transition.

Safety first
Before starting Wegovy, it’s important to leave at least one full week after your last Mounjaro dose or vice versa. This “wash‑out” period helps your body adjust and reduces the risk of overlapping side‑effects.

Key considerations

  • Different mechanisms: Mounjaro acts on both GIP and GLP‑1 receptors, while Wegovy acts on GLP‑1 only. This affects how your body may respond.

  • Dosages aren’t directly equivalent: The dose numbers for Mounjaro and Wegovy don’t match up one‑for‑one. A higher Mounjaro dose doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll start Wegovy on the lowest dose.

  • Your history matters: Your previous dose, how well you tolerated treatment, and your weight‑loss progress all influence what dose of Wegovy may be right for you.

Example dose mapping (for guidance only):

  • 2.5 mg Mounjaro → 0.25 mg Wegovy

  • 5 mg Mounjaro → 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg Wegovy

  • 7.5 mg Mounjaro → 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg or 1.0 mg Wegovy

  • 10 mg or higher Mounjaro → 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1.0 mg or 1.7 mg Wegovy

Your clinician may recommend a different dose based on your individual profile and all assessments are subject to a clinical review.

What to do next

  1. Ensure you’ve waited at least 7 days after your last Mounjaro/Wegovy injection.

  2. Complete the switch on your renewal form so our team can review your full medical history and determine the appropriate Wegovy/Mounjaro dose.

  3. Begin your new treatment as advised, and continue with your existing healthy habits around nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress. Medication works best when combined with healthy lifestyle changes.
